CHKD now offers telehealth appointments. With telehealth appointments, you can visit your CHKD pediatrician, specialist, surgeon, or urgent care provider over the phone or by using an online video connection. If telehealth is determined to be a good fit for you and your child, you’ll need access to a suitable device that has a camera, microphone, and speaker.
Follow these tips for a successful telehealth appointment:
- If your appointment is with a CHKD surgeon, pediatrician, or specialist, you will need to use a computer, laptop, smart phone, or tablet with a camera and microphone for the visit.
- If you have a telehealth appointment with an urgent care provider, only a smart phone is needed.
- Find a space in your home that has a door to allow for privacy and to avoid interruptions from other family members or pets. Turn off the TV to eliminate background noise.
- Make sure you are appropriately dressed to allow for an examination.
- Before your appointment, make sure your device is fully charged. If you plan to use earphones, make sure they are charged as well.
- Test your camera to ensure nothing blocks its view. Make sure your face is clearly visible. Ensure adequate lighting, and eliminate any sunlight as it causes a glare. Check to see if your sound is working.
- When logging into your telehealth visit or appointment invitation, type your full name into the name field on your login screen.
- Make sure to have pen and paper, or other means available, to take notes. But, recording of a telehealth visit is not permitted.
In some cases, patients may need to be seen in-person at one of our locations.
