How to Refer

Our team provides outpatient care to patients from birth to 21 years of age. We are trained and dedicated to improving the lives and daily function of children with chronic disabilities.

Rehabilitation Services for infants, children, and adolescents

CHKD's rehabilitation services provide a comprehensive approach to improving and restoring function through the use of diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services for infants, children, and adolescents.

Whether your child has had an acute decline in function from injury, illness, or surgery, or has functional challenges relating to a neuromuscular or musculoskeletal diagnosis, we have an extensive program aimed at family-centered care and optimizing functional independence of the patient.

We utilize a multidisciplinary approach with collaboration with orthopedics, mental health, and pain and palliative medicine teams.

Functional Electrical Stimulation Therapy Bike

A new bike called a functional electrical stimulation therapy bike is the newest piece of equipment at CHKD’s inpatient rehabilitation unit. It works by sending small electrical pulses to paralyzed muscles to restore or improve their function. In this photo, patient Ian Balutis uses the bike to help recover from paralysis caused by inflammation of his spinal cord.
