CHKD's audiology specialists provide comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative hearing services for children from birth to 21 years of age.

MyCHKD Patient Portal

MyCHKD offers secure, online access to your child's health information as well as tools to help you communicate more efficiently with your CHKD provider's office. If you haven't done so already, please register for a MyCHKD account in person at your provider's office.

About Us

Our team of pediatric audiologists provides family-centered care and is specially trained to diagnose and treat a child's hearing loss using evidence-based best practices.

Our audiologists work in conjunction with ear, nose and throat specialists and other supporting professionals such as speech-language pathologists and social workers to provide comprehensive care for hearing concerns.

Evaluation

  • Newborn hearing screenings
  • Behavioral hearing tests
  • Immittance measures such as tympanometry
  • Otoacoustic emissions (OAE) testing
  • Auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing

Note: Two-person testing (your child will have a clinician in the booth to assist them) and ABR testing only takes place in Norfolk at our main hospital, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk.

Hearing Tests

Early identification of hearing loss and intervention are critical for a child, significantly increasing the child’s chances of developing spoken language.

Hearing Loss

If hearing loss is present, our objective is to determine the type and degree of your child’s hearing loss through our evaluations.

Cochlear Implants

Cochlear implants are recommended when a child cannot obtain sufficient hearing from hearing aids to rely on listening for communication.
