Personal Statement

CHKD’s unwavering commitment to provide compassionate care to children and their families, and its dedication to advancing pediatric medicine are what brought me here. The opportunity to be part of a sleep medicine team that genuinely makes a difference in young lives is an absolute honor.

Bio

Samantha Putnam is a board-certified physician assistant (PA-C) with a dedicated focus in sleep medicine. Samantha grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, and earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry and psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. She then pursued a career as a chemist in the pharmaceutical industry and also worked at NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

Driven by her passion for pediatrics and medicine, Samantha served as a Big Sister in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program of Houston and spent time volunteering at various pediatric hospitals and clinics throughout Texas where she gained an interest in pursuing a master’s degree in physician assistant studies. She then moved to Hampton, Virginia, with her husband and dachshund in 2019 and fell in love with CHKD where she volunteered in Child Life. Samantha attended Eastern Virginia Medical School to become a physician assistant and is thrilled to be serving the children and families of the Hampton Roads community in a different capacity. Samantha values the importance of sleep and looks forward to helping children and their families improve sleep health and their overall well-being.

When she’s not in the clinic, Samantha enjoys staying active by participating in CrossFit, yoga, and dancing, as well as spending time at the beach, hiking, and traveling with family and friends.
