Bio

Dr. Mitchell arrived at Eastern Virginia Medical School and CHKD in 1992, joining the fledgling Center for Pediatric Research. He advanced to the academic rank of professor of Pediatrics at EVMS in 2006. 

After 12 challenging and exciting years in full-time academics conducting research on infectious diarrhea and pediatric immunizations, he returned to his origins of providing general pediatric care and loves seeing patients every day.

He is the medical director for CHKD Medical Group of pediatric practices, a role he has served since 2014. This role provides clinical leadership for strategic planning, quality improvement, community relations, and program development.
