Vice President of People Operations, Chief People Officer
Duties
- Provides oversight of all areas of people operations for the Health System including, talent acquisition, compensation, benefits programs design and implementation, and people operations.
- Leads efforts to improve the employee experience and strengthen recruitment to attract, develop, reward, and retain top talent.
- Develops collaborative and forward-thinking approaches to prepare the People Operations team and operations leadership for change initiatives.

Barnes is a senior strategist with a proven track record of envisioning and delivering strong people programs, building employee engagement, operational efficiency, and talent development structure. With more than 25 years of human resources executive experience, including 15 years as the Vice President and Chief People Operations Officer at Duke Raleigh Hospital and Clinics, Barnes has helped shape transformative, end-to-end human resources strategies for various organizations.
Education
Barnes earned his master’s degree in healthcare administration from Bellevue University, where he also earned a bachelor’s degree in Management of Human Resources. In addition, Barnes has completed various executive leadership courses at Duke University Fuqua School of Business.
