Thrift Stores

The first CHKD Thrift Store opened in 1986 on Little Creek Road in Norfolk. Since then, we've expanded to include 22 locations throughout Hampton Roads and Richmond, as well as Elizabeth City and Kitty Hawk, NC.

Hours of Operation

The majority of CHKD Thrift Stores are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Shop to Support CHKD

Sales from all CHKD Thrift Stores benefit CHKD, bringing in more than $2 million to CHKD in a single year.

Community support helps CHKD provide quality healthcare to our children, who annually make more than 600,000 visits to CHKD Health System providers.

Discount Days

Monday: Military Day (retired/active), 25% off.
Tuesday: Customer Appreciation Day, 25% off for all customers on all items purchased.
Wednesday: Law enforcement and first responders receive 25% off.
Thursday: Senior Day (55 or older), 25% off.

Donate Goods

What We Accept

We accept donations of household discards in resalable condition except for major appliances. Among the items CHKD accepts for donation are:

  • DVDs
  • Furniture
  • Artwork
  • Sporting goods

The thrift stores are unable to accept vehicles. If you would like to donate an operational car or truck, boat, house trailer, etc., please contact ABC Virginia Auto Auction at (757) 487-3464 for details.

Determining the Value of Donated Property
All items donated to CHKD Thrift Stores are deductible for income tax purposes to the extent allowed by law.

Donors may refer to IRS Tax Publication 526 "Charitable Contributions" and Publication 561 "Determining the Value of Donated Property" at the IRS website www.irs.gov or consult with their tax advisor.

The stores' operations are owned by CHKD Thrift Stores, LLC, a disregarded entity whose sole member is Children's Health System, Inc., a public charity.

How to Donate

Drop-off

Donations may be dropped off at any time during business hours.

Schedule a Pick-up

Free pick-up of donations is available Monday through Friday, year-round. During warmer months, Saturday pick-ups are available for community yard sales of 50 families or more.

Pick-ups are generally scheduled a week in advance.
