Meet Our Care Team

CHKD's pediatric neurosurgery team provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerve disorders in infants, children, and adolescents. Our pediatric neurosurgeons also participate in CHKD multi-disciplinary clinics, including neuro-oncology, craniofacial, spina bifida, and Neuro-NICU. These clinics provide an interdisciplinary approach to care for our most complex patients.

MyCHKD Patient Portal

MyCHKD offers secure, online access to your child's health information as well as tools to help you communicate more efficiently with your CHKD provider's office. If you haven't done so already, please register for a MyCHKD account in person at your provider's office.

Conditions We Treat

Our physicians are specifically trained in pediatric neurosurgery. Physicians in our Neurosurgery Clinic offer treatment for the following conditions:

  • Brain and spinal cord tumors and cysts
  • Brain or spine trauma 
  • Chiari
  • Congenital abnormalities of the Spinal cord
  • Craniofacial disorders
  • Hydrocephalus 
  • Intractable epilepsy 
  • Spina bifida 
  • Vascular malformation of the brain and spinal cord

Specialty and Multidisciplinary Clinics

  • Cleft and Craniofacial Center: Children with craniofacial abnormalities receive comprehensive care from an experienced, multidisciplinary team with an international reputation.

  • Multidisciplinary Clinic for patients with Spina Bifida: CHKD's spina bifida clinic is a multi-disciplinary program for children and youth ages birth to 21 with birth defects of the spine and spinal cord.  

  • Neuro-NICU: This multidisciplinary team consists of highly trained neonatologists, pediatric neurologists, pediatric neurosurgeons, and developmental therapists that treat newborns who need advanced, specialized care for neurological conditions.

  • Neuro-Oncology Clinic: Patients with brain tumors are seen by a multidisciplinary care team that consists of oncologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, endocrinologists, social workers, and dieticians all in a single location.  

Insurance and Billing Information

We accept all major insurances, including Virginia Medicaid, Tricare, and Cardinal Health. Please take the time to understand how your insurance plan works, especially regarding annual deductibles and co-pays, which can affect your out-of-pocket costs.

A referral from your child's primary care provider or other referring provider is required no matter what type of insurance you have. Please make sure your referral has not expired and remember to bring it with you to the appointment.

Everyone should bring a government-issued photo ID and their insurance card to every medical appointment.
