Expanding Pediatric Services into Communities

Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters is expanding the availability of pediatric subspecialty services and ambulatory surgery into the communities where our families live and work. Our first expansion into Newport News was a resounding success. Families on the Peninsula can now access the experienced professionals of CHKD without battling traffic congestion and taking off precious time from work and school.

Now, families throughout Virginia Beach will soon have the same peace of mind when the CHKD Health and Surgery Center in the Princess Anne corridor opens later this year. During FY2007, CHKD provided almost 51,000 outpatient visits to Virginia Beach children. More than 7,200 Beach children came to the hospital’s emergency center and another 1,200 were hospitalized at CHKD during this time.

By having our specialized services under one roof, we are helping improve access to an array of pediatric care. Because today’s busy families are juggling work, school and other activities, we know having services close to home is critical. This new facility will also positively impact our ability to expand inpatient bed capacity of the main hospital in Norfolk to meet the ever-changing needs of our children. We believe this new Center will also increase the number of children who may not have been able to access CHKD care previously.
